Iceland is a magical little island country that earns its spot on every last bucket list. Known for its deceiving name (much like its neighbor, Greenland), Iceland has a vibrant and bizarre history filled with qualities most textbooks from other countries lack (e.g. sorcery & witchcraft, elves, sea monsters, government jobs in relation to these topics, et cetera). What most tourists miss on their journey to Iceland is the upper-left corner of the country: the Westfjords. While most adventure seekers hit Ring Road or the Golden Circle, only 11% of tourists make it up to the Westfjords. Do yourself a favor: rent a car (preferably one with 4WD), don't ask any questions, and get off the beaten path for a few days. What you find will be so truly delightful.
Take a look at my guide on Iceland's Westfjords and learn about just how many non-human friends you can actually make while on the backroads of this beautiful country.
